SINGAPORE — Malaysian celebrity couple Kamal Adli and Uqasha Senrosewere taking photos with fans at the Hari Raya Mega Sale trade show at Singapore Expo on Sunday (12 March) when Kamal was allegedly attacked by a baton-wielding man.
The 37-year-old actor suffered cuts on his head, as well as bruises on his face and cheeks after he was beaten up by the man. He was taken to Changi General Hospital and received several stitches.
Malay news outlet Berita Harian (BH) reported that Kamal’s actress wife Uqasha said they were taking pictures with an aunt in a wheelchair at around 9pm when the violent incident happened.
A man had called out to her husband, but instead of requesting a picture, he threw a baton at Kamal’s head.
“Blood was pouring out. Kamal was badly hurt. I saw Kamal wake up because he wanted to know who attacked him,” Uqasha recalled.
Police have arrested Kamal’s attacker, after several visitors and stall operators stopped him from fleeing.
“Everyone there chased and stopped the man. They were puzzled and angry as to why Kamal was the victim of his attack,” Uqasha told BH.
She thanked the people who helped and expressed gratitude that her husband’s life was saved and his memory was not affected.
Arrest of a 34-year-old man
Television host Roslan Shah, who brought Kamal and Uqasha to Singapore for the trade show at Singapore Expo, hopes the man responsible for the attack will be punished.
He said, “As the person who brought Kamal and Uqasha to this Hari Raya Mega Sale, I have to be responsible, and I don’t want anything to happen to the artistes (who have) come here to meet their fans.”
Uqasha and Kamal are prominent actors in Malaysia’s entertainment scene, having starred in numerous dramas, including the recent Astro Ria show “Akira Khan”.
The Hari Raya Mega Sale is an event organized by MegaXpress International from Friday to Sunday. It features artists who want to showcase their business or make special appearances to meet fans.
BH reported that a police spokesperson said they received a call about an altercation at the Singapore Expo.
“A 37-year-old man was still conscious when taken to hospital. A 34-year-old man was also arrested in connection with the case. The investigation is still ongoing,” the news outlet reported.
In a recent Instagram post, Uqasha tearfully updated fans about the incident and showed a short clip of doctors treating Kamal at the hospital.
Yahoo News Singapore has reached out to the police for more details on the incident.
